TIVISSA: Mountains and Iberians

Surrounded by mountains and farmland, Tivissa is one of the most attractive towns in the Ribera district. It is famous for the Iberian settlement of Castellet de Banyoles, one of the largest on the east coast of Spain.
Facilities include a new campground and hostel, as well as a Tourism Office that organises guided tours of the old town and the Iberian village, and walking and cycling tours of the signposted paths surrounding the town.

The Iberian City of Castellet de Banyoles

Located on a platform over the Ebro river, this area offers an unmatched view of the river and the mountains of Els Ports. Three excavated areas are open to the public: the entrance with two pentagonal towers and two parts of the fortress inside. Signposts and information panels guide you on your tour.

Tivissa’s Old Town

The walled old town is full of narrow, sinuous streets and fascinating sights such as the remains of the old castle, fortified gates, and centuries-old houses with balconies and coats of arms. The centrepiece is the ecclesiastical monument of Sant Jaume, a magnificent temple that mixes Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles.
