The Treasure of the Ebro

Throughout the millennia, the river has carved this area into a generous interior valley, with fluvial and mountain ecosystems alongside fertile farmlands of sweet fruit, vineyards and olive groves. Here you will find wild ecosystems that have been preserved in their entirety, such as the Sebes nature reserve, the Flix Meander, and the islands and riverbanks, which have been officially declared Natural Interest Sites by the Plan for Areas of Natural Interest of Catalonia (PEIN). Other ecosystems include the Tamarindal de Miravet (tamarind tree grove), and the exuberant fringing forests and coppice forests containing a precious diversity of flora and fauna which must be respected and protected.

Cradle of Cultures

Thanks to this river, the source of life, mankind has been able to settle here throughout history, respecting the river while using it as a navigable waterway. It is here that the local Iberian culture developed.

Major vestiges of other cultures are also visible and form a rich heritage: the masías (traditional farmsteads), vegetable gardens, waterwheels, castles and towns all show a Templar and Muslim legacy. Chapels and churches are testaments to the conversion and expulsion of our Moorish ancestors, while various ruins show the evidence of the fateful Battle of the Ebro River.
